A Functional Behavior Assessment is the initial consultation conducted by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). It has two parts: an intake interview covering your child's strengths, background, behaviors, and family goals, and a direct observation of the child in a comfortable setting.

Who is part of the ABA therapy team?

The ABA team includes the child, parents, Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) who deliver sessions, and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) who designs and oversees the treatment plan. Everyone collaborates to achieve shared goals for the child's learning, behavior, and independence.

How does positive reinforcement work in ABA?

ABA therapy is rewards-based. When your child completes a task correctly, demonstrates positive interactions, or achieves a goal, they receive a reward to motivate repeated practice. Behavior is most effectively motivated by achieving something of personal value.

How often is the treatment plan reassessed?

A formal reassessment and progress report is typically generated every 6 months. BCBAs are constantly analyzing treatment effectiveness and incorporating new strategies when appropriate.

Parents, family members, and caregivers are essential parts of the treatment plan. Parent training helps families reinforce ABA strategies at home, creating consistency between sessions and everyday life so progress generalizes across environments.
